“5 Things You Must Do When Setting Up Your LinkedIn Profile”

In business-to-business sales, it is important to be where your buyers are.  Today they are on LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is great because it is the best selling tool.  Whether you are trying to sell a product or yourself for new career opportunity, LinkedIn provides the vehicle to do so in today’s environment.  No matter what you’re selling, doing these 5 steps will help you get on the right track.

1. Add A Picture - Add a good picture of yourself.  It’s better to do business with someone if you can see them.  Save the pictures of you and your kids for Facebook.

2. Write a Great Headline - Tell us about you and be sure to utilize all the space given.

3. Add Skills - Your skills are what get you noticed by clients and/or recruiters.

4. Write A Great Summary - Here is where I recommend you open a Google Doc or Word Document and write a summary about yourself then pasting it back into LinkedIn.  Use up all the space LinkedIn gives you and be sure you use the skills and keywords that describe the nature of your business.  Doing so will result in more profile views and more opportunities.

5. Import Your Contacts - This is where the your tires meet the road.  Import your contacts so that you can see which colleagues, clients, partners, and so on are on LinkedIn and you can start building your network.

Bonus Tip - Download the LinkedIn Mobile app for your smartphone.  The new mobile app allows you to engage and participate in your network on the go when it’s convenient for you.

If you noticed, I highlighted the word “you” throughout this piece.  LinkedIn makes it easy and appropriate to talk about yourself and what you’re doing.  Get in the game and get noticed.
